- We've all heard about the benefits of downloading 'with' a 16550 UART, what
- about downloading 'from' a 16550 UART? Ask any BBS or ISP if they're
- uploading using 16550's with the Tx-FIFOBuffer level set above one (1). Have
- you ever downloaded data from a modem that you know is using a 16550 UART
- with the Tx-FIFOBuffer set 'Above One'? Remember, if the Tx-FIFOBuffer level
- is set at one (1) it's the same as uploading with a 8250!!
-
- Try this experiment with a friend or neighbor. Transfer some files where
- you're BOTH using 16550 UART's and where Tx and Rx FIFO Buffers are BOTH set
- above one. You should use something to measure throughput rate. Above all,
- set BOTH modems at their 'Maximum advertised DTE level'.
-
- NOTES:
- Win 3.1 & WfW 3.11 <comm.drv> both default to Tx-FIFOBuffer=1, a la 8250.
- Replace <comm.drv> in Win 3.1. Set required <comm.drv> switches in WfW 3.11.
- Increase COMBoostTime and COM(?)Buffer size as needed for error prevention.
